"It is only a light bulb that can go out at night and still be bright in the morning"

Welcome to the Faversham Christmas Lights website,

this is the official website of Faversham Community Christmas Lights.

(Further details of our current funding appeal relating to a recent feature of support from Faversham News can be found here)

The ancient town of Faversham, known as the "Market Town of Kings", with its wonderful overhanging buildings, spectacular Market place and ancient Guildhall, all take on a completely different look at Christmas time.

From the last Saturday in November until 6th January each festive season the streets are zigzagged with several miles of cables carrying thousand’s of brightly coloured bulbs, shop fronts are adorned with seasonal features and illuminated Christmas trees. The centrepiece each year is the market place with a huge tree dominating the square and strings of lights reaching from it in every direction.

Above the Post Office is a special seasonal greeting, turn another corner and find a larger than life Christmas candle.

All this is made possible by a small committee of volunteers, who were formed in 1983 by the then Mayor of Faversham. Apart from financial grants received from Faversham Town Council and Swale Borough Council the Committee is responsible for raising its own funds, . Without the financial support of local businesses and donations from the general public it would not be possible for the town to have such a wonderful display each year.

All the hard work of erecting the displays is carried out by volunteers, and often in cold and wet conditions, nevertheless the work goes ahead and a display is provided for all to enjoy!
